Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake – Cusco
The tour begins early in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Cusco’s historic center. The drive heads northwest through changing Andean landscapes, passing valleys, rivers, and rural communities as daylight reveals the mountains.
A stop is made in the town of Mollepata for a nourishing Andean breakfast prepared with local ingredients. After breakfast, the journey continues to Soraypampa, located at approximately 3,900 meters above sea level, where the hike begins.
The trail ascends gradually through open mountain terrain, offering constant views of surrounding peaks and the imposing Humantay Glacier. After a steady hike, travelers reach Humantay Lake at around 4,200 meters above sea level. Here, time is provided to relax, take photographs, and enjoy the contrast between the turquoise water and the snow-covered mountains.
During the descent, the route offers panoramic views of the Salkantay mountain range, one of the most important high-Andes landscapes in the region. After returning to the starting point, the group travels back to Mollepata for lunch before continuing the return journey to Cusco in the afternoon.
